Name: marty and kim Country: United States State: Pennsylvania
Interests: We are a family of 5... we enjoy being in the mountains,or at the beach, pretty much anywhere as long as we are together. We are involved in our church and activities that go along with that. The man of the house is a big hunter and he also enjoys fishing, camping, and lifting weights. The woman (who "stands by her man"), spends her free time scrapbookin', reading, taking walks. or doing flower gardens. Our three children have varied interests, and you'll have to ask them. We are trying to live a Christ honoring life, and pray that others would see His example through us. Keep on prayin' for us in that aspect. If there is anything else you need to know... just ask.

| So.... in about a month or so I'll be turning the big 4-0. Yeah, I know.... I certainly don't act my age, but reality will hit someday. The four friends that I grew up and ran around with - we all turn 40 within two months of each other, so we'll be getting together for a day of fun this month. BUT Margie and I were up for more of an adventure so we headed to NYC for the day. What a total blast. I had been there a few times before, but Marg had never been there, other than trips to the Bowery mission. We were on our own for the day. First we headed out to see the statue of liberty. It was a beautiful day. Marg and I on the ferry There she is in all her glory!!!! From the Empire State Building looking north over Manhattan. The litttle patch of green in the very middle is Central Park. Taking a break from all the walking. We also had some really exiting "cab" rides through the city. We saw Ground Zero, St. Patrick's Cathedral ( a wedding was just ending as we got there), The NBC Studio, Rockefellar Center, FAO Schwartz toy Store, Central Park, and did some window shopping. Since I had been there before, I was just basically the tour guide. My favorite part of the day, and something I had never done before was when we decided we wanted to get pizza before we left. We decided that walking would take too long, and getting a cab would probably get stuck in traffic and we'd miss our bus, so we decided to take a bike taxi..... (sometimes known as a "rickshaw" - what an adventure...... We hailed our "biker" and hopped on - what a ride. We weaved and dodged through the new york city traffic, all the while laughing hysterically. What a rush. We had to wonder what the laws are for bike taxis though when our driver peddled right through a red light and kept on going. Seriously, it was the most fun and exhillarating ride I've been on in a while. But it was worth every bit of money we spent on him. We both said if we'd have known it was that fast and that much fun, we would have skipped the yellow cabs and did more bike taxis throughout the day. It was a great way to spend the day with a childhood friend and we made soooooo many memories. We are both ready to go again sometime. We'd love to go around Christmas in the snow and see the Christmas lights, but we're not sure the bike taxis would go very well in the snow. Grin!!! We are sure to remember the year we turned 40. Hey, if you'd ever like to go to New York City for the day, I'd love to go and show you around. It would be great fun and a trip you'd never forget. | | |
| Hey everyone.... we are still around. We've just been having some major computer issues. So we bought a new one AND are getting high speed internet hooked up this week. Life on the web super highway should be much easier now. Some changes that have happened since last time I updated... marty now works for Fisher and Thompson, and absolutely LOVES it. If any of you dairy farmers out there need service... he's the one to call. Katelyn has graduated and is working part time. Looking for something full time though. Any ideas???? Benjamin is now in 10th grade. looking forward to turning 16 and driving in February. He already bought a truck and is ready to load up his buck this fall. Emily is in 5th grade... still likes school and being a social butterfly. I'm still working at Kilgore Landscaping 4 days a week, from 8-12. Love that schedule and the flexibility of my boss. So, yes, we are doing well. Looking forward to what the future holds for our family. And trying to let it in God's hands. | | |
| So we are getting ready to head out to Creation again this year. We are taking 21 youth (ages 13-15) along, with another advisor couple. It should be an exciting time. You'll have to stop in and see marty's creative "kitchen"... we decided that last year was just not quite as nicely set up as things could be, so he came up with a great brainstorm. He is borrowing a 20ft. trailer from his boss, and he set up his portable cooler on it, a table where we can cook/grill the food, and also a "shower" stall. Everything we need for our meals will be up off the ground (you know ~ in case it rains, but the forecast shows good weather). It really is turning out pretty cool. We painted a sign on the side with our youth group name on it. It sure will make it a lot nicer. We are looking forward to going again this year. I'll have to put pictures on when we get back. Note*** God answers prayers in the neatest way ~ this is one of our "God spy's" this week... we were getting ready to load the portable frig. onto the trailer (Marty, Benjamin and myself) and the thing is a beast. Marty was just commenting on how it would be great if we could have some more help, who could we call?, etc, etc.... and as I was standing there my dear cousin Tim and his dog came jogging up the road. (for those of you who know Tim ~ he has muscles!!!!!!! grin....sorry tim, I just had to share this. ) He came running down and started talking, when it hit me ~ "Hey, maybe Tim could help!!!" Sure enough he was willing to help load the frig. and it went on soooo easily with his help. We are positive the Lord sent him our way, because he made the comment that he usually does not jog that far, he usually turns around down the road farther, but today decided to go just a little farther. Thank you Lord, and thank you Tim - you were and are a huge blessing. We love you. We'll talk to you later, when we come home from Creation.... | | |
| Okay, it has been a long time, but life has been good AND very busy!!! Some of the things that have been going on in the Kampen household - 1. I have in the last month become recently employed at Kilgore landscaping as their Secretary/receptionist/go-for girl, etc... I work 4 days a week from 8 - 12. The best part is that they are only a mile away, and very flexible. I am really enjoying it. 2. The "to do" list here at our house is always being added to. This past week we ripped out our kitchen floor and will be putting in a new one.... So our house is in COMPLETE disarray and mass confusion mess, with all the kitchen stuff in the sunroom etc. I look forward to it being finished. 3. Katelyn will graduate on Friday night from Warwick High School..... aaaggghhhh..... it makes me feel a little sad. I remember the first day she stepped on the bus and the tears I shed, now she is so grown up and has turned into a great young lady. 4. Summer vacation is only 4 days away. Yay!!!!!! We are all looking forward to that. And I'll have to update more another day..... I've been babysitting also and the little one is awake and needing some attention. I'll try to catch up sooner than last time. | | |
| As of last Thursday evening Marty has become... "Sir" Martin Walter Kampen!!!!. Last september he started on a life course of becoming a better man living boldly for God. He signed up for "Men's Fraternity". What an excellent program. It lasted for 24 weeks and they met every thursday evening. They went through a workbook and discussed "The quest for authentic manhood". Afterwards they met in small groups and had deeper discussions. Last thursday evening he graduated and was officially "knighted" with a real sword and everything. It was so neat to see all these men (there were 440 of them that night), being knighted and being willing to stand up to be REAL men. The four faces of manhood are : The king - he has stong convictions, courageous moral choices, a servant spirit, and righteous leadership. The Warrior - has intiative, protecting/providing/perservering/ and fighting for his family The lover - is tender, sensitive, emotional, open, sacrificial care and physical affection The friend - is loyal, accountable, challenging and fun. It was such a great journey and he is going again this fall. After all...... "like never before, our world needs REAL men. Authentic men. Men, like Jesus, who possess life giving spirits and righteous, warrior hearts." He would challenge every man to sign up, and commit to being a better man.Be the man that God has called you to be. "This journey is challenging, soul searching and eye opening, but by the end you will find a clearer, richer and nobler masculinity for yourself." He highly recommends it to every man and if you would like to join him, or want more information, just give him a call. He would love to share about what he has learned and the changes he is making. It is exciting. For more information you can check out www.mensfraternity.com Yeah - so now we are living with a "knight" - pretty cool, huh?!! | | |
